The present study was aimed to investigate the preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaves and bark of Diospyros virginiana belonging to family Ebenaceae. The dried leaves and bark of the plant were subjected to successive Soxhlet extraction by continuous hot percolation method using organic solvents of increasing polarity such as ethanol. Both the extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening and it showed the presence of active constituents such as alkaloid, flavonoid, phenol and carbohydrates. Heavy metals and inorganic elements are determined by Atomic absorption spectroscopy technique. The results obtained shows that the extracts contain medicinally important bioactive constituents and also heavy metals present in the plant extracts were within the permissible limits. The results showed that the plants hold tremendous promise in providing the variable secondary metabolites and mineral supply that could enhance the curative process of ill health.Keywords

The in vitro antimicrobial activity of methanolic, chloroform and petroleum ether extracts of Diospyros virginiana were evaluated against selected pathogens showing moderate activities by disc diffusion methods against P.aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas fluroscence and S.pyogenes and the As.oryzae, As.niger, Penicillium viridicatum, C.albicans and Trichoderma viride. The antimicrobial activity of leaves methanolic extract showed best activity varied from 34-21 mm. Minimum inhibitory concentration test was performed by modified disc diffusion method showed the least activity at leaf extract. It might be concluded from the study that the potential of this plant to produce useful antimicrobial compounds is great and must be better explored.Keywords

Colorectal cancer is one of the deadly diseases and is ranked as third for men and second for women amongst all cancers in the world. Due to 6,08,000 deaths, it ranks as the fourth common cause of death due to cancer (WHO, 2018). The “ethnomedicinal studies” of the therapeutic values of plants evolves a systematic scientific evaluation. In the present study, the lead compounds hit on the GCMS analysis of the ethanolic extract of Erythrina variegata L. Leaf. The extract was studied for its anticancer potential in Insilco molecular docking. The results revealed that the 3-eicosyne have strong binding energies against the colorectal cancer mutated oncogene KRAS G12D and tumour suppressor gene p53 R249S in comparison to other compounds. Finally, it is confirmed that the active pharmaceutical ingredients have potent anti-Cancer activity and have great efficacy against the colorectal adenocarcinoma oncogenes and tumour suppressor regulating genes.Keywords
